**New Delhi:** Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, asserting that the Congress would not have included AAP in the INDIA opposition alliance if given the choice. Khera accused Kejriwal of having “megalomania” and prioritizing short-term political gains over a long-term strategy to defeat the BJP.
Khera’s comments followed AAP’s announcement to contest all seats in the upcoming Haryana and Delhi assembly elections. He suggested that Kejriwal’s decision to contest all seats demonstrated a lack of commitment to the INDIA bloc’s larger goal of defeating the BJP. “If someone has megalomania, there’s no cure for it,” Khera stated, adding that the Delhi elections would reveal whether Kejriwal’s political ambitions are sustainable.
While acknowledging the rise of AAP in states like Punjab, Goa, and Delhi, Khera emphasized the need for a long-term strategy focused on defeating the BJP, whom he identified as the Congress’s true enemy. He differentiated AAP from parties like the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), accusing Kejriwal of lacking ideology and treating governance as a “business transaction.”
Khera dismissed the possibility of Congress extending support to AAP in the event of a hung assembly in Delhi, predicting a decisive victory for one party. He further criticized Kejriwal’s political approach, contrasting it with what he described as a true commitment to governance (“rajdharma”), which transcends short-term electoral gains. The Congress leader argued that a party with even “10 percent ideology” is superior to AAP, which he characterized as lacking any coherent ideology.
