Wed Feb 05 14:28:40 IST 2025: ## Delhi Elections 2025: Voting Underway Amidst AAP Allegations of Police Interference
**New Delhi:** Voting is underway for the Delhi Assembly elections 2025, with enthusiastic voter turnout reported across the city. While robust security measures are in place, allegations of police interference have emerged.
Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the Delhi Police of obstructing voters at a polling booth in Chirag Delhi. Bharadwaj claimed barricades were preventing access, specifically targeting poorer residents. He alleged that this was being orchestrated by senior police officers, citing instances of police presence at AAP strongholds and even a late-night raid on a private property. He questioned the lack of consistent application of rules regarding vehicle access near polling booths, citing examples of prominent figures using their cars closer to the booths than allowed for ordinary citizens.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ankit Chauhan responded, stating that exceptions are made for elderly and disabled voters. He promised to investigate Bharadwaj’s concerns.
Several prominent figures have already cast their votes, including President Droupadi Murmu, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The election sees a three-way contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress. The ruling AAP, facing corruption allegations, aims for a third consecutive term, while the BJP and Congress are vying to wrest power.
In a separate development, TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha praised the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and called for a nationwide ban on non-vegetarian food.
