Wed Feb 05 17:42:05 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: BJP Projected Ahead in Exit Polls, AAP Close Behind
**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – Voting concluded in the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections today, with a final voter turnout of 58.27%, according to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer. All 70 constituencies participated in a single phase, utilizing 13,766 polling stations. While Mustafabad recorded the highest turnout at 69%, Karol Bagh saw the lowest at 47.40%.
A majority of exit polls predict a narrow victory for the BJP over the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with the Congress projected to make minimal gains. However, results vary widely. Matrize exit poll projects 35-40 seats for the BJP-led NDA and 32-37 for the AAP, while People’s Pulse predicts 51-60 seats for the NDA and only 10-19 for the AAP. Two other polls, Wee Preside and Mind Brink Media, conversely predicted an AAP victory.
The AAP rejected the exit poll predictions, citing a history of underestimation of their performance, while the BJP interpreted the results as a sign of voters’ desire for change. A total of 699 candidates contested the elections, with AAP and Congress fielding 70 candidates each, and BJP 68.
The day saw a mix of high voter enthusiasm and allegations of irregularities. Reports of alleged voter bribery and fraudulent voting were investigated by Delhi Police, though no evidence was found to support claims of widespread malpractice. AAP alleged that the Delhi Police is being misused by the BJP to manipulate the electoral process. The Election Commission pledged strict enforcement of the model code of conduct.
Concerns about civic amenities, employment, and inflation were prevalent among voters. First-time voters expressed strong support for improved women’s safety and more job opportunities. Special provisions were in place for senior citizens and people with disabilities, including e-rickshaws and accessible polling stations. The Election Commission deployed substantial security personnel to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.
The official results will be announced on February 8th.
