**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – The Congress party has criticized the Indian government for a significant shortage of faculty at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and similar institutions across the country. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh cited data from a recent Rajya Sabha reply by Health Minister J.P. Nadda, highlighting alarming vacancy rates.
Ramesh stated that fully operational AIIMS institutions face a substantial faculty deficit, ranging from 24% in Bhopal to 39% in Rishikesh. The situation is even more dire in partially operational AIIMS-type institutions, with vacancy rates exceeding 40% in several locations, including Mangalgiri (41%), Kalyani (39%), and Bilaspur (54%). Even the prestigious AIIMS New Delhi reported a 34% vacancy rate.
Ramesh expressed concern not only about the sheer number of vacancies but also the potential impact on the quality of education and patient care. He urged the government to prioritize addressing this issue without compromising standards. The Congress leader called for immediate action from the Health Minister to rectify this critical shortage.
