**Thiruvananthapuram, February 5, 2025** – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today released a new medical textbook, “Management of Diabetic Complications: Calling for a Team Approach,” at his chamber. The book, published by Springer, addresses the management of various diabetic complications within the Indian context. The textbook, edited by Dr. Georgi Abraham (Department of Nephrology at MGM Healthcare, Chennai) and Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, along with Dr. Priyanka Govindan, Dr. Nanditha Arun and Dr. Suneeta Teckchandani, comprises 26 chapters covering all aspects of diabetes and its complications.
The release is particularly timely given Kerala’s high prevalence of diabetes. According to the National Family Health Survey (2019-21), Kerala has the highest rate of diabetes in India at 27.4%, exceeding Tamil Nadu (22.3%) and Puducherry (22%). The ICMR-INDIAB study from the same period reported a slightly lower, but still significant, prevalence of 23.6% in Kerala.
The book aims to provide clinicians with a comprehensive guide to preventing and managing the wide range of diabetic complications, from mild to life-threatening, emphasizing the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
