Wed Feb 05 08:20:00 UTC 2025: ## AAP Accuses BJP of Election Violations During Delhi Assembly Voting

**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a series of accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Delhi Police, alleging widespread election irregularities on the first day of voting in the Delhi Assembly elections. AAP claims BJP promotional material was found at polling booths, violating the Model Code of Conduct. The party further alleges that Delhi Police, who report to the Union Home Ministry, failed to act, acting as “mute spectators.”

A tweet from the AAP’s official X account displayed images of alleged election material and criticized both the police and election officials for inaction. While Delhi Police confirmed that some promotional material was seized, they clarified that it was from independent candidates’ booths, not BJP-nominated ones.

The AAP also leveled accusations against the police for allegedly obstructing voters, particularly in areas considered AAP strongholds. Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed police were erecting barricades and influencing voters in Chirag Delhi, hindering access to polling booths. South Delhi DCP Ankit Chauhan stated that these allegations would be investigated, attributing some restrictions to rules allowing elderly and disabled voters vehicular access to booths.

These incidents follow previous disputes between AAP and the Election Commission, with AAP leaders accusing the commission of bias – a claim the EC has denied. The ongoing allegations add to a tense atmosphere during the elections, with the BJP hoping to make significant inroads against AAP, who are aiming for a third consecutive victory. Voting is underway across Delhi’s 70 Assembly seats, with results expected on February 8th. The 2015 and 2020 elections saw landslide victories for AAP, winning 67 and 62 seats respectively, leaving BJP and Congress trailing significantly.
