Wed Feb 05 20:00:00 IST 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Poultry Deaths Prompt Investigation, Officials Assure Public Safety
AMARAVATI, Andhra Pradesh – A significant number of poultry birds have died in several parts of Andhra Pradesh, prompting an investigation by the state’s Animal Husbandry Department. Director Damodar Naidu stated that poultry farm deaths are considerably higher than those among backyard birds. He attributed the surge in mortality, in part, to the unusually large number of migratory birds that have flocked to the Kolleru Lake area in West Godavari district this year. He also cited a lack of proper biosecurity measures by some poultry farmers as a contributing factor to the spread of disease.
The department is providing veterinary assistance to affected farmers and has sent samples to the state-level veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Vijayawada and a high-security lab in Bhopal for testing. Naidu emphasized that there is no confirmed link between consuming chicken or eggs and any illness. He reassured the public that cooked chicken and eggs are safe for consumption and urged against unfounded anxieties.
