Wed Feb 05 22:50:00 IST 2025: ## Tehran Braces for Severe Winter Storm and Extreme Cold Snap
**Tehran, Iran –** Tehran’s crisis management directorate has issued a warning for a major winter storm and subsequent cold snap expected to hit the province starting Thursday, February 7th. Hamed Yazdimehr announced the orange alert, urging residents to prepare for significant disruptions.
The storm, predicted to last until Friday evening, will bring heavy snow, strong winds, and blizzard conditions, particularly in the northern and mountainous areas. Authorities warn of hazardous road conditions, advising against unnecessary travel, especially in mountainous regions. Those who must travel are urged to carry chains and winter equipment. The directorate also cautions against activities like paragliding and hiking due to the risk of avalanches and extreme cold.
Yazdimehr highlighted the potential for power outages, urging residents to conserve energy. He also warned of the risk of flooding due to melting snow, urging people to avoid areas near rivers and streams. Damage to temporary structures, billboards, and old trees due to strong winds is also anticipated.
A further significant drop in temperature is expected from Saturday, February 9th, lasting until Tuesday, February 11th. Temperatures are predicted to plummet by 8-10 degrees Celsius in northern areas and 5-8 degrees in central and southern regions. This cold snap will affect the entire province, especially areas like Firuzkuh, Abeali, Damavand, Lavasan, Pardis, and Migon. The cold is expected to cause ground frost and strong winds in mountainous regions.
Authorities warn of the risk of frozen pipes, damage to agricultural products, and increased energy consumption. Residents are advised to check heating systems, use antifreeze in vehicles, and protect water pipes. Farmers and livestock owners are urged to take precautions to protect their crops and animals from the extreme cold. The crisis management directorate emphasizes the importance of cooperation from citizens in managing energy consumption, particularly gas and electricity. Road crews are on standby to clear snow and ice.
