Tue Feb 04 07:01:23 UTC 2025: ## Heavy Police Presence in Madurai Prevents Hindu Munnani Protest

**Madurai, February 4, 2025** – A large-scale police operation prevented a planned protest by the Hindu Munnani in Thirupparankundram today. Over 2,500 police officers were deployed around the Subramaniya Swamy temple and the Thirupparankundram hillock following the group’s call for a demonstration against alleged attempts by a section of Muslims to rename the hillock.

While the police successfully blocked most protestors, around 20 Hindu Munnani members managed to reach the 16-pillar mandapam before being apprehended. Devotees were allowed to visit the temple after verification, but access to the hillock, home to the Sikkandar Dargah and Kasivishwanathar temple, was restricted as a precautionary measure. A two-day prohibitory order in the city, leading to the closure of many local businesses, was also in effect. Madurai City Police Commissioner J. Loganathan confirmed the security measures.
