Tue Feb 04 09:37:03 UTC 2025: ## Global Call for People-Centered Cancer Care for Women

**Geneva, Switzerland** – The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is joining a global movement advocating for people-centered care in the fight against women’s cancers, coinciding with World Cancer Day’s 2025 theme, “United by Unique.” FIGO highlights the need to address the unique needs, values, and experiences of each patient, emphasizing holistic support encompassing physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Professor Sarikapan Wilailak, Chair of FIGO’s Committee on Women’s Cancer, stated that a people-centered approach is crucial for addressing the significant challenges posed by women’s cancers, including cervical, ovarian, uterine, and breast cancers, which often have far-reaching impacts on families and communities. The committee stresses the importance of providing equitable, accessible, and respectful care to every woman.

Professor Barbara Schmalfeldt, Vice Chair, emphasized the critical need for global access to prevention strategies, screening, and the best available therapies, particularly for prevalent cancers like breast and cervical cancer. She underscored the role of healthcare providers in prevention, early detection, and comprehensive management, by addressing each patient’s unique needs and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

FIGO’s call emphasizes that a holistic approach extends beyond medical procedures, prioritizing dignity, quality of life, and emotional support. By combining medical expertise with compassion, the organization believes a transformative improvement in global cancer care can be achieved. For more information, visit worldcancerday.org.
