Tue Feb 04 05:33:04 UTC 2025: ## Man City Splash £172m on Quartet of New Signings in Deadline Day Frenzy

**Manchester, England** – Manchester City completed a dramatic deadline day swoop, signing midfielder Nico González from Porto for a reported €60m (£49.8m), their fourth major signing of the winter transfer window. The acquisition brings City’s total spending to a staggering £172.3m as manager Pep Guardiola embarks on a significant squad rebuild.

The 23-year-old González, who previously played for Barcelona, joins City after activating his release clause. While City reportedly attempted to negotiate a lower fee, the transfer was structured over multiple installments. The Spanish midfielder signed a four-and-a-half-year contract.

“This is the perfect opportunity for me,” González stated, expressing his excitement at joining a team filled with “unbelievable, world-class players.” He also highlighted his eagerness to work under Guardiola, calling it an “honour.”

City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, described González as a “very talented young midfielder” and an “ideal acquisition.” His versatility to play defensive, central, or attacking midfield adds crucial depth, particularly following Rodri’s season-ending knee injury.

González’s arrival follows the signings of forward Omar Marmoush (€70m + €5m add-ons from Eintracht Frankfurt), and defenders Vitor Reis (£29.6m from Palmeiras) and Abdukodir Khusanov (£33.8m from Lens). This flurry of activity signifies a major overhaul for City, currently outside the top four in the league.
