Tue Feb 04 11:37:05 IST 2025: ## Manipur Film Festival Aims to Revive State’s Image After Ethnic Conflict
**Imphal, Manipur –** The second edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival will take place from February 6th to 9th, aiming to revitalize Manipur’s image following months of ethnic conflict. The festival, organized by the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and the Manipur State Film and Television Institute, was postponed in 2024 due to violence between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities.
This year’s festival will showcase 54 films, including 38 international entries, across various categories. While over 50 guests, including filmmakers and producers, are expected to attend, the organizers said they were unable to invite some foreign filmmakers and critics due to late political clearance.
Festival director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum stated that the event aims to reposition Manipur as a hub for independent filmmaking and highlight the state’s rich storytelling tradition. He emphasized the importance of using cinema to rebuild the state’s image after the period of unrest. Manipur has reportedly seen relative peace for over two months.
A unique memento featuring a Manipuri pony, symbolizing the resilience of the state’s film industry and the endangered breed, will be presented at the festival. Artist Robin Wahengbam designed the memento, highlighting the connection between the pony and the origins of polo.
