Tue Feb 04 15:53:27 IST 2025: **Delhi Court Dismisses Defamation Case Against Shashi Tharoor**
NEW DELHI (February 4, 2025) – A Delhi court dismissed a criminal defamation complaint filed against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor by BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The complaint, filed in September 2024, alleged that Tharoor made false and defamatory statements about Chandrasekhar on national television, accusing him of bribery during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Thiruvananthapuram.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal ruled that the complaint lacked sufficient evidence of defamation. Chandrasekhar claimed Tharoor’s statements damaged his reputation and contributed to his election loss. The statements were widely disseminated through news channels and social media.
However, in a separate development, the Delhi High Court summoned Tharoor on Monday in a related civil defamation suit filed by Chandrasekhar seeking ₹10 crore in damages. The High Court will hear the case further on April 28th.
