Tue Feb 04 07:34:42 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Assembly Special Session Postponed Amidst BRS Criticism

**Hyderabad, February 4, 2025** – The special session of the Telangana Assembly, convened to discuss the findings of a social, economic, and caste survey, was postponed to 2 p.m. on Tuesday after just two minutes. This abrupt adjournment has sparked sharp criticism from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the opposition party.

The Assembly’s postponement followed a statement by Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu, who cited an ongoing cabinet meeting and the need for time to prepare minutes on the survey report, as well as reports from a Dedication Commission and a one-man Judicial Commission on Scheduled Castes categorization.

BRS leaders, including T. Harish Rao, V. Prashanth Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, and G. Kamalakar, condemned the government’s lack of preparedness. They highlighted the unprecedented nature of the two-minute adjournment, arguing that it showed disrespect for the legislature and marginalized communities. They questioned the timing of the cabinet meeting, which was originally scheduled to precede the assembly session. The BRS also criticized the survey itself, calling it a “farce” due to alleged inaccuracies and incomplete data collection. They pointed to discrepancies in population figures between the recent survey and a 2014 household survey, raising concerns about the reliability of the data.
