Tue Feb 04 08:20:56 UTC 2025: ## Bhopal Bans Begging, Penalizes Alms Giving

**BHOPAL, INDIA (February 4, 2025)** – The district administration of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has banned begging, citing concerns about criminal activity and safety hazards. The order, issued Monday evening under section 163 (2) of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, prohibits both begging and the giving of alms within the district.

Authorities stated that beggars soliciting at traffic signals have been linked to criminal activities and drug addiction, posing a risk to public safety. The order clarifies that legal action, including the registration of cases under relevant provisions, will be taken against both those who beg and those who provide them with alms or purchase goods from them.

A shelter at the Community Health Centre Kolar has been designated to house individuals affected by the ban. This action follows a similar ban implemented in Indore district last year. The Bhopal ban marks a significant step by local authorities to address concerns regarding begging and its associated issues.
