**CHENNAI, February 3, 2025** – A year after its launch, Tamil actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party is yet to make a significant impact on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. While positioning itself against corruption and divisiveness, with the DMK as its main rival and the BJP as an ideological opponent, the party has largely remained inactive since its inaugural conference.
Political analysts are urging Vijay to increase his political engagement to build momentum before the 2026 Assembly elections. R. Kannan, author of “The DMK Years,” suggests that Vijay missed an opportunity by not contesting the recent Erode (East) by-election, arguing that active campaigning, even without victory, would have boosted the party’s visibility. Kannan recommends a statewide tour, regional conferences, and the formation of strong alliances to emulate the success of Andhra Pradesh’s Pawan Kalyan.
G. Palanithurai, a veteran academician, emphasizes the need for TVK to strengthen its booth-level committees and focus on everyday issues impacting ordinary citizens. He also stressed the importance of clearer policy positions and increased public engagement through media interactions.
However, TVK propaganda secretary A. Rajmohan countered that Vijay’s political involvement extends beyond the past year, citing his participation in social activism and welfare initiatives. Rajmohan highlighted the party’s solution-oriented approach, differentiating it from the usual blame game politics. He affirmed that Vijay will continue to engage with the public in the coming months. The party’s future success will depend on its ability to translate its stated goals into tangible political action before the crucial 2026 elections.
