**KOCHI, KERALA –** Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, expressed hope for a global ceasefire on hatred during a visit to Kochi, India. Speaking at a thanksgiving event celebrating the reopening of the 825-year-old Kadavumbagam Synagogue, Rabbi Cooper noted a growing global yearning for peace, citing examples of individuals in diverse nations including Palestine, Pakistan, China, and Japan seeking peaceful solutions. He emphasized the need for people across all communities to utilize their intellect and resources for constructive purposes, cautioning against the misuse of technology.
Rabbi Cooper highlighted the ongoing threat of antisemitism, citing attacks against Jews and synagogues even in the U.S. and Europe. He contrasted this with the historical protection afforded to synagogues in multicultural India, particularly in Kerala. He stressed that combating antisemitism requires a collective effort, acknowledging the emerging threat of lone-wolf terrorist attacks. He further urged individuals of the three Abrahamic faiths to collaborate in fostering peace in West Asia. The Rabbi’s comments came on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025.
