Mon Feb 03 08:34:32 IST 2025: ## Trump Cuts South Africa Aid, Musk Targets USAID Amidst Security Breach Controversy

**Washington D.C.** – President Donald Trump announced the immediate termination of all US funding to South Africa in response to the country’s land reform policies, which he condemned as unfair. This follows the signing of a controversial law allowing land confiscation without compensation in certain cases. The move affects nearly $440 million in aid allocated to South Africa in 2023. Trump stated the funding freeze would remain until a full investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, a separate controversy is brewing surrounding Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Musk, appointed by President Trump, called USAID a “criminal organization” and demanded its closure after security officials reportedly denied DOGE access to classified information. Two top USAID security officials were subsequently placed on leave.

While White House Communications Director Steven Cheung denied the incident, other accounts suggest DOGE representatives attempted to access secure areas without proper clearance. This incident, coupled with the recent shuttering of the USAID website and its apparent integration into the Department of State, has fueled concerns that the Trump administration is dismantling the agency.

Democratic lawmakers have strongly criticized both actions. Senator Chris Coons condemned Trump’s treatment of USAID employees, calling it a threat to US leadership and safety. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Elizabeth Warren raised alarms about Musk’s access to classified information and influence on government policy, citing national security concerns. They argued that Musk’s actions constitute a significant threat and demanded accountability from Republicans. President Trump stated he would remove “radical lunatics” from USAID before deciding on the agency’s future.
