**New Delhi, February 3, 2025** – The Delhi High Court granted expelled BJP leader and Unnao rape convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar interim bail until February 4th for an eye surgery. The court suspended Sengar’s sentence, citing his scheduled cataract surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi. He is required to surrender to jail authorities on February 5th.
The court’s decision follows a previous interim bail granted for the surgery, which was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Sengar’s lawyer argued the need for additional time for pre-surgery admission. The survivor’s lawyer opposed the bail extension, citing concerns about repeated interim releases.
Sengar’s appeal against his 2019 conviction and sentence for the 2017 rape of a minor girl is pending before the High Court. The case, initially heard in Uttar Pradesh, was transferred to Delhi by the Supreme Court in 2019. The interim bail is a part of this ongoing appeal.
