**Houston, TX –** A United Airlines flight from Houston to New York City made an emergency landing on Sunday morning after an engine malfunction caused a fire on the right wing. United Airlines flight 1382, carrying 104 passengers and five crew members, aborted its takeoff from George Bush Intercontinental Airport shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Passenger video footage shows orange flames and smoke billowing from the wing as the Airbus A319 was still on the runway. Passengers were evacuated via emergency slides and stairs and subsequently bused to the terminal. No injuries were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the aircraft “received an indication about one engine,” prompting the emergency landing. United Airlines arranged a replacement aircraft, and passengers departed for New York’s LaGuardia Airport at 2:00 p.m. CT. The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident.
This incident follows two recent fatal plane crashes earlier this year, raising renewed concerns about aviation safety. One crash involved an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter in Washington, D.C., resulting in no survivors. A second incident in Philadelphia saw a small jet crash into a residential area, killing seven.
