**Washington, D.C.** – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued its first major update to arc flash safety guidance in almost 20 years. The new guidelines address several critical areas, including the often-overlooked dangers of low-voltage arc flashes, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and arc-rated clothing, implementation of a hierarchy of hazard controls, comprehensive worker training programs, and the establishment of clear boundaries around arc flash hazards.

According to Scott Margolin, Vice President of Technical at Tyndale and Chairman of the Partnership for Electrical Safety (PES), the updated guidance highlights the evolving understanding of electrical hazards and the need for enhanced safety protocols. Margolin, a leading expert in electrical safety, discussed the key elements of the new guidance in a recent podcast. The PES is actively working to improve electrical worker safety in light of these new guidelines.

The release of this updated guidance underscores OSHA’s commitment to protecting workers from the serious risks associated with arc flash incidents. The detailed information within the new guidelines is intended to assist employers in creating safer workplaces for electrical workers.
