**Mumbai, India** – The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, is currently on a three-day visit to India, focusing on strengthening ties between the UK and India, particularly in education and trade. On Monday, he visited the British School in Delhi, interacting with students and viewing their projects.
His visit included a meeting with Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday in Mumbai. During their discussion, Prince Edward expressed his satisfaction with the growing UK-India relationship and highlighted the potential for increased collaboration, particularly in higher education. He emphasized his role as Chancellor of the University of Bath and advocated for mutually beneficial educational partnerships.
Governor Radhakrishnan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the strong democratic ties between the two nations and the ease with which Indian students adapt to the UK education system. He suggested collaborations in hospital management, green energy, and pharmaceuticals, and pledged to encourage Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Maharashtra universities and UK institutions. Further strengthening economic ties, including a potential Free Trade Agreement, was also discussed.
Both also explored the possibility of adding business and cultural festivals to the existing Commonwealth Festival of Sports, leveraging the popularity of sports like cricket and football in India. Prince Edward acknowledged India’s cricketing success and its badminton prowess.
This trip marks Prince Edward’s first official visit to India since receiving the Dukedom of Edinburgh in 2023. Following his Indian engagements, he will travel to Nepal with the Duchess of Edinburgh.
