**Harrogate, North Yorkshire, UK** – Ripley Castle, a historic estate dating back nearly 700 years, is on the market for the first time in its long history. Current owners Sir Thomas and Lady Ingilby have listed the 445-acre property for £21 million (approximately Rs 225 crore), potentially making it the most expensive property sale outside of London.
The sprawling estate includes not only the magnificent castle itself, but also a lake, pub, helipad, car park, cricket pitch, hotel, tea room, gift shop, and wedding venue. The property has been divided into nine lots, allowing for individual or collective purchase.
Sir Thomas, who has overseen the castle’s upkeep for over 50 years, explained the sale as part of his and Lady Ingilby’s retirement plans. “There are days when we are very positive about it, there are other days when we are sad for what we will miss,” he said. “I’ve got things I want to do.” The couple, who inherited the estate through a family line stretching back to Sir Thomas Ingilby’s marriage in 1308/9, plan to travel after the sale.
Lady Ingilby described the enchanting atmosphere of the castle, stating, “Some of the events we’ve hosted here have been incredibly moving…It feels like something out of a fairy tale.”
The sale marks the end of an era for the Ingilby family, but promises a new chapter for the buyer of this remarkable piece of British history.
