Mon Feb 03 05:10:49 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Students Sound Alarm on Perumbakkam Lake Pollution

**CHENNAI, February 3, 2025** – Two eighth-grade students have launched a campaign to raise awareness about the severe pollution affecting Perumbakkam lake. Aadhiran N. A. and Caroline Zita Dias, members of the “Blue Brigade” at The School KFI, conducted a study revealing high levels of water pollution and its impact on the surrounding community.

Their research, presented at the recent Children’s Science Congress, highlighted ecological degradation and the socio-economic consequences of the lake’s deteriorating condition. The students conducted water sample tests which confirmed extreme pollution. They also interviewed residents of the Perumbakkam settlement, documenting health concerns stemming from poor sanitation.

Alarmed by their findings, the students wrote to the Chengalpattu Collector, S. Arunraj, urging action against illegal encroachments and the enforcement of solid waste management rules. They also submitted their project to the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board. Further plans include presenting their findings to a member of parliament and raising public awareness through art and social media campaigns. The Blue Brigade, a 14-member group, aims to galvanize support for the lake’s conservation.
