**Portland, OR –** The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I recall – its most serious level – for over 6,300 bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips sold in Oregon and Washington state. The chips, 13-ounce bags with a “guaranteed fresh” date of February 11, 2025, and manufacturing codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx, may contain undeclared milk, posing a serious health risk to those with milk allergies.
The recall, initially issued last month by Frito-Lay, was upgraded to Class I due to the potential for “serious adverse health consequences or death” in individuals with milk allergies or sensitivities. The FDA emphasizes that milk is one of the eight major food allergens.
While Frito-Lay reports the affected chips were removed from store shelves after the initial recall, consumers in Oregon and Washington who purchased the chips since November 3, 2024, are urged to check their pantries. Consumers with the recalled chips should discard them immediately.
The FDA states that, to date, no allergic reactions have been reported. However, the agency’s current communication restrictions, stemming from a recent pause on non-emergency communications, may affect public awareness efforts surrounding this recall. No other Lay’s products are affected by this recall.
