Mon Feb 03 05:47:11 UTC 2025: ## Sri Lankan Navy Arrests 10 Indian Fishermen

**Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, February 3, 2025** – Ten Indian fishermen from Thangachimadam in Ramanathapuram district were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy early Monday morning for allegedly fishing in the Palk Bay. Their trawler was also impounded.

The fishermen, who were aboard a boat owned by Sandya Satish, were apprehended while fishing and taken to Thaazvupaadu port in Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu officials confirmed the arrests and stated the fishermen will face judicial custody.

This incident follows the arrest of 34 other fishermen last week, prompting protests from fishermen’s associations in Ramanathapuram. The associations criticized both the Indian and Sri Lankan governments for their perceived inaction, arguing that the repeated arrests demonstrate a lack of concern for the fishermen’s safety and livelihoods. The associations recently held a demonstration in Rameswaram to urge the Indian Union government to intervene. The arrests occurred despite the issuance of 171 fishing permits from Mandapam South fishing harbour on Sunday.
