Mon Feb 03 05:00:00 UTC 2025: ## A24 Snaps Up Sundance Hit “Sorry, Baby” for Near $8 Million

**Park City, UT –** A24 has won a competitive bidding war to acquire the worldwide rights to “Sorry, Baby,” a Sundance Film Festival standout directed by and starring Eva Victor. The deal, reportedly worth close to $8 million, marks one of the biggest sales of this year’s slower-than-usual festival.

The poignant drama, which received a standing ovation at its premiere, follows a college professor recovering from sexual assault. Co-stars include Naomi Ackie and Lucas Hedges, with Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”) serving as producer. Variety’s chief film critic Peter Debruge praised the film as “disarmingly funny” and lauded Victor’s ability to strike a delicate balance between humor and compassion in tackling a sensitive subject.

The acquisition comes after a multi-day bidding war involving prominent independent studios Neon and Mubi. Only two other films, “Together” (Neon) and “Train Dreams” (Netflix), have secured distribution deals so far at this year’s Sundance. Several high-profile films remain unsold, highlighting the current cautious market.

UTA Independent Film Group brokered the deal for “Sorry, Baby,” with Charades handling international sales.
