**Chennai, February 3, 2025** – Leading opposition figures in Tamil Nadu have strongly condemned an alleged threat against a senior woman IPS officer, ADGP Kalpana Nayak, following her exposure of irregularities in police recruitment. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for a thorough investigation.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami termed the alleged threat a “blot on the police,” demanding Chief Minister M.K. Stalin take responsibility and ensure Ms. Nayak receives adequate security. He further called for a transparent investigation and strict legal action against those responsible.
BJP state president K. Annamalai echoed these sentiments, stating that under the DMK government, violating laws has become commonplace. He highlighted the alleged attempt on Ms. Nayak’s life, suggesting a pattern of silencing those who expose corruption and misgovernance. He alleged that the state police ignored Ms. Nayak’s pleas for investigation into an incident where her office was set on fire.
AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran and Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan also joined the chorus of condemnation, demanding a detailed investigation and appropriate punishment for those responsible. Mr. Vasan further criticized the government’s failure to comply with a 2023 Madras High Court order to rectify reservation irregularities in sub-inspector recruitment.
The opposition leaders’ statements highlight growing concerns about the state of law and order in Tamil Nadu and the alleged suppression of dissent under the current administration. The alleged attack on Ms. Nayak has become a focal point of political criticism, with the opposition demanding accountability and justice.
