**New Delhi, February 2, 2025** – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP of unleashing a campaign of violence against AAP workers in the lead-up to Wednesday’s Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal alleges that BJP-backed individuals assaulted AAP workers, claiming Delhi Police inaction in the face of these attacks.
The accusations center around a video showing members of the Valmiki Samaj and the Dalit Mahapanchayat vandalizing an AAP campaign van, tearing down posters of the party’s symbol. While AAP alleges police inaction, the New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) stated on X (formerly Twitter) that no formal complaint had been filed. The DCP urged AAP to lodge a formal complaint, promising strict action upon receiving one. The Delhi District Election Officer (DEO) also reported receiving no complaints regarding the incident. The DEO added that all written complaints received are investigated according to law and Election Commission norms.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and MP Manoj Tiwari dismissed AAP’s claims as “lies, confusion, and negative politics,” asserting that Delhi residents want a BJP government. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra further criticized AAP’s alleged corruption.
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar countered that the BJP’s actions are a sign of their impending defeat and a desperate attempt to boost morale. She referenced a previous incident where stones were allegedly thrown at Arvind Kejriwal. Kakkar also highlighted a video showing a BJP candidate appearing to step on AAP flags.
The AAP has long accused the BJP-led central government of using the Delhi Police to harass the party. The upcoming election is a rematch of the 2020 election where AAP won a landslide victory, securing 62 out of 70 seats. Votes will be counted on February 8.
