**Prayagraj, UP –** The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 witnessed its third and final “Amrit Snan” on Basant Panchami, drawing millions of devotees to the Triveni Sangam for a sacred bath. Over 62.25 lakh (6.225 million) devotees participated in the holy dip by 8 am alone, bringing the total number of bathers since the Kumbh began on January 13th to over 34.97 crore (349.7 million), according to the Uttar Pradesh Information Department. This includes 10 lakh kalpvasis (long-term pilgrims) and 6.58 lakh other pilgrims.
The event, held under tight security following a tragic stampede during a previous Amrit Snan, saw the successful participation of various sadhu akharas (religious orders), including the Nagas. DIG Maha Kumbh, Vaibhav Krishna, reported that crowd control measures were effective and the snan concluded peacefully.
Devotees from around the world, including one from Germany who described the experience as “amazing and energising,” participated in the ritual, which holds special significance due to auspicious planetary alignments. Swami Bhavendra Giri of the Panchayati Akhada Shri Niranjani expressed his best wishes and prayed for world welfare.
The Amrit Snan, timed to coincide with the Hindu festival of Basant Panchami, celebrating the goddess Saraswati, marks the culmination of the Maha Kumbh’s major bathing rituals. The festival also heralds the start of preparations for Holi.
