PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Golf commentator Jim Nantz has acquired a new vehicle, and it’s one with a story. Nantz won a charity auction for former World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler’s 2012 GMC Yukon XL, paying $50,000. The SUV, boasting 190,000 miles and a Masters GMC logo, is now parked at Nantz’s Pebble Beach home, overlooking the iconic golf course.
The auction benefited Triumph Over Kid Cancer (TOKC), a charity close to Scheffler’s heart. The idea to donate the car, originally purchased after a family car breakdown during the 2012 Masters, came from Scheffler’s father. TOKC was founded by a friend of Scheffler’s who died from osteosarcoma. Scheffler even signed the dashboard and passenger side air bag cover with a “First Owned Vehicle” inscription.
Nantz, known for his love of golf, quipped that driving the SUV to the course might lower his handicap. Scheffler, amused by the purchase, confirmed that the car had been sitting at their golf course for a while before being claimed by its new owner. The transaction marks a unique connection between two prominent figures in the golf world, supporting a worthy cause in the process. Nantz is no stranger to owning historically significant golf-related vehicles, previously acquiring the golf cart of the late Hall of Famer Ken Venturi.
