Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – India has successfully defended its ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa by nine wickets in a dominant final performance. The tournament, held in Malaysia, saw 16 teams compete in a group stage followed by a Super Six round and semi-finals.
India’s victory was built on a stellar bowling performance, restricting South Africa to a meager 82 runs. Gongadi Trisha led the attack with impressive figures of 3/15, while Aayushi Shukla contributed 2/9, including two maiden overs. In the chase, Trisha Gongadi (44* off 33) and Sanika Chalke (26* off 22) steered India to victory with over eight overs to spare.
Despite a strong showing throughout the tournament, including wins over New Zealand, Samoa, and Nigeria, South Africa couldn’t overcome India’s powerful combination of bowling and batting. India’s undefeated run included victories against the West Indies, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Scotland, and England.
This win marks India’s second consecutive title in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup since its inaugural edition in 2023. The next edition of the tournament is scheduled for 2027.
