Mon Feb 03 12:00:29 IST 2025: ## Godhra Train Carnage Convict Arrested in Pune for Theft

**PUNE, INDIA (February 3, 2025)** – Salim Jarda, a 55-year-old life convict in the 2002 Godhra train carnage case, has been arrested in Pune, Maharashtra, police announced today. Jarda, who had absconded after being granted parole in September 2024, was apprehended on January 22nd during an investigation into a series of thefts in the Pune rural area.

Jarda was one of 31 individuals sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat, an incident that resulted in the deaths of 59 people. He was initially granted a seven-day parole but failed to return.

According to Alephata police station inspector Dinesh Tayde, Jarda and his gang were arrested for multiple theft cases. The investigation revealed Jarda’s connection to the Godhra train carnage case. Police allege he travelled regularly from Godhra to Pune with his gang to commit these crimes.
