**Tokyo, Japan** – Barbie Hsu, the Taiwanese actress famed for her role in the hit drama *Meteor Garden*, passed away in Japan at the age of 49. Her death was confirmed by her younger sister, Dee Hsu, on February 3rd through Next Apple. Dee Hsu stated that her sister died suddenly from influenza and pneumonia while the family was on vacation in Japan.

“Thank you everyone for your concern,” Dee Hsu said in a statement. “During the new year, our family traveled to Japan. My beloved, bright sister, due to influenza and pneumonia, has left us. The actress had maintained a low profile over the past two years, rarely giving interviews. While friends occasionally shared photos of gatherings with her, her husband, DJ Koo, recently revealed that she had been in poor health and he had been her primary caregiver.

Hsu’s later years were marked by legal disputes with Wang Xiaofei and his mother, Zhang Lan. Hsu accused Wang Xiaofei of violating their divorce agreement regarding child support and filed a defamation lawsuit against Zhang Lan for accusations of drug use, which Hsu denied through drug tests.

Hsu rose to fame in the early 2000s after her role as Shancai in *Meteor Garden*. Her career spanned several successful dramas and numerous endorsements, establishing her as a leading actress in the Chinese-speaking world. Despite her relatively short stature, she was a sought-after model, praised for her radiant appearance and bright smile.
