Kannur, Kerala – February 3, 2025 – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly condemned the murder of Dheeraj Rajendran, a student activist, accusing the Congress party of condoning the killing and exhibiting a dangerous level of criminalization in its politics. Speaking at the inauguration of a memorial study center dedicated to Rajendran on Sunday, Vijayan alleged that numerous SFI (Students’ Federation of India) activists have been murdered by the KSU (Kerala Students Union), the student wing of the Congress.

Vijayan criticized the Congress leadership for not distancing themselves from the perpetrators and claimed that right-wing media is handling the issue dismissively. He further stated that attacks against SFI activists are ongoing, and attempts are being made to disrupt their gatherings.

The 1,500 square-meter memorial study center, built near Rajendran’s home in Trichambaram, Kannur, stands as a tribute to the slain activist, who was stabbed to death in 2022. The prefabricated structure was constructed by former SFI activists on land purchased near his family home. Vijayan’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between rival student groups in Kerala.
