**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Shahid Kapoor’s action thriller “Deva” saw a modest increase in box office collections over its opening weekend, despite mixed reviews and a slow start. While the film’s domestic total stands at ₹19.05 crore after three days, its worldwide collection has crossed ₹20 crore.
The film, a remake of the Malayalam film “Mumbai Police,” opened with ₹5.5 crore on Friday and saw a 16.36% jump on Sunday, earning ₹7.15 crore. This surpasses the opening weekend collections of recent releases “Fateh” and “Emergency.”
Sunday’s occupancy rate reached 15.38%, with Chennai showing the highest at 41.50% occupancy across 65 shows. Mumbai registered 18.75% occupancy across 867 shows, while Delhi NCR saw 11.50% occupancy from 1310 shows. Over 5000 shows are currently running across India.
Despite the positive global figures, the film’s performance in India remains below expectations. The lukewarm reception underlines the challenges faced by Hindi remakes in recent times. “Deva,” directed by Rosshan Andrrews and starring Pooja Hegde, Kubbra Sait, and Pavail Gulati alongside Kapoor, is a production of Roy Kapur Films and Zee Studios.
