NEW DELHI (February 3, 2025) – In a major pre-election crackdown ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, enforcement agencies have seized over ₹218 crore worth of cash, narcotics, bullion, liquor, and illegal freebies. The seizures, conducted under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), represent a significant escalation in anti-corruption efforts.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, reported that the cash seized alone totals ₹38.64 crore – a 202% increase compared to the 2020 elections. Furthermore, authorities have registered 2,703 FIRs, exceeding the total number (2,067) recorded during the entirety of the 2020 election cycle.

The intensified surveillance is aimed at ensuring free and fair elections. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has stated that efforts to maintain an inducement-free electoral process will continue. This crackdown comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the recent Union Budget as the “most middle-class friendly budget in India’s history” during a final election rally on Sunday.
