Mon Feb 03 06:40:00 IST 2025: ## Celtics Edge Pelicans in Thrilling Finish, Tatum’s Buzzer-Beater Secures Victory

**NEW ORLEANS** – Jayson Tatum’s clutch jumper with 0.7 seconds remaining lifted the Boston Celtics to a 118-116 victory over the injury-depleted New Orleans Pelicans Friday night. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Pelicans, who suffered further setbacks during the game.

Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 28 points, while Tatum finished with 27, including the game-winning shot. Tatum’s fourth-quarter performance was key, as he scored the decisive points after CJ McCollum tied the game with 24 seconds left. Trey Murphy III poured in a season-high 40 points for New Orleans, hitting 8 of 12 three-pointers. Jose Alvarado added 20 points, but McCollum’s 17 points were hampered by poor outside shooting (1-for-7 from three-point range).

The Pelicans suffered a significant blow early in the first quarter when Dejounte Murray suffered a lower right leg injury and was forced to leave the game. The injury is a serious blow to the team, as Murray has been averaging 17.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 7.6 assists since returning from a hand injury. Zion Williamson also missed the game due to illness.

The Celtics displayed strong ball movement, tallying 32 assists on 42 made field goals. Kristaps Porzingis contributed 16 points and four blocks, while Luke Kornet also played a crucial role in the fourth quarter. McCollum’s last-second 35-foot shot fell short, leaving the Pelicans with their fifth consecutive defeat.

The Celtics will face the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, while the Pelicans embark on a four-game road trip beginning Monday against the Denver Nuggets.
