Mon Feb 03 12:52:58 IST 2025: ## Cricket Legend Wasim Akram Questions Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Team Selection

**Dubai, UAE –** Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has expressed concerns over several selections in the national team for the upcoming Champions Trophy, questioning the inclusion of certain players while praising others. Speaking in a chat with Sports Yaari, Akram specifically criticized the selection of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, citing his poor recent statistics – a bowling average of 100 and a batting average of 9 over his last 20 matches. He contrasted this with India’s selection of multiple spinners, suggesting Pakistan could learn from their approach.

Akram also questioned the inclusion of Khushdil Shah, stating both players were “out of the blue” selections. He voiced his preference for Aamer Jamal as an all-rounder, highlighting Jamal’s long-term potential.

Despite these concerns, Akram expressed relief at the inclusion of opener Fakhar Zaman, whom he considers a key player in white-ball cricket. He suggested a potential batting order adjustment, proposing that Babar Azam open and Mohammad Rizwan bat in the middle order. Akram praised Pakistan’s fast bowling attack, highlighting the return of Naseem Shah and the presence of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Shahnawaz Dahani.

While expressing his hope for a Pakistan victory, Akram acknowledged the challenging nature of the tournament, featuring the world’s top eight teams. He predicted Pakistan should at least reach the semi-finals, given their home advantage and the strong anticipation surrounding the India-Pakistan clash in Dubai.
