Sun Feb 02 20:07:05 UTC 2025: ## Sharma Blasts Second-Fastest T20I Century for India

**Mumbai, India** – Abhishek Sharma smashed the second-fastest T20I century by an Indian, powering India to a mammoth total against England in the fifth T20I on Sunday. Sharma’s electrifying innings of 135 runs off just 54 balls, including 13 sixes and seven fours, propelled India to 247/9.

The left-handed batsman reached his century in a blistering 37 balls, just two balls shy of Rohit Sharma’s national record. His 17-ball fifty also shattered KL Rahul’s previous record. Sharma’s innings also set new benchmarks for the fastest T20I century in terms of overs (10.1 overs) and the most sixes by an Indian in a T20I innings (13). His score of 135 is also the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is, surpassing Shubman Gill’s previous record. His performance in the powerplay overs (58 runs) also surpassed Yashasvi Jaiswal’s recent record.

This was Sharma’s second T20I century, following his maiden ton against Zimbabwe last year, and he equalled former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi’s record for a 37-ball international century. The explosive partnership between Sharma and Tilak Varma (24) yielded 115 runs for the second wicket. India’s impressive total, largely thanks to Sharma’s phenomenal display, set the stage for a thrilling match.
