Sun Feb 02 20:07:05 UTC 2025: ## Abhishek Sharma Blasts Record-Breaking Century in India’s Win Over England

**Mumbai, India –** Abhishek Sharma smashed a record-breaking 135 off just 54 balls, leading India to a resounding victory over England in the fifth T20I match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. His innings, featuring 7 fours and a staggering 13 sixes, is the highest-ever T20I score by an Indian batsman, surpassing Shubman Gill’s previous record of 126* against New Zealand in 2023.

Sharma’s whirlwind century, achieved in a mere 37 balls, is the second-fastest T20I century by an Indian player. He also claimed the record for most sixes in a T20I innings by an Indian, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s previous record of 10 sixes. His performance also placed him third among full-member nations for the fastest T20I century.

While Rohit Sharma’s record for the fastest Indian T20I century (35 balls) remains intact, Sharma’s explosive innings overshadowed even this remarkable achievement. Rohit, who retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 World Cup, saw one of his records broken but another narrowly avoided.

Sharma showed patience in the initial overs before unleashing his destructive power. His century was completed with a single off the first ball of the 11th over bowled by Brydon Carse. He also scored the most runs in the powerplay for India in a Mumbai T20, smashing 58 runs in the first six overs and surpassing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 53. His 100 runs came in the fewest overs ever by an Indian, eclipsing Quinton de Kock’s previous record.

Sharma’s innings ultimately ended in the 18th over, caught by Jofra Archer off the bowling of Adil Rashid. His phenomenal contribution helped India post a massive 247/8, their fourth-highest T20I total.
