**Mumbai, India** – Abhishek Sharma smashed the fastest ever T20I century against England in the fifth and final T20I match, reaching the milestone in just 37 balls. This surpasses the previous record held jointly by Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch. His innings was also the second fastest T20I century for India, only behind Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball hundred.
Sharma’s explosive knock included 13 sixes and 7 fours in a 135-run innings off 54 balls. He also achieved the fastest fifty for India in a T20I (second fastest overall) in just 17 balls during the powerplay, contributing to India’s record powerplay score of 95/1 against England (previously 82). This powerplay performance also saw him achieve the joint second-most fifties in a T20I powerplay.
The young opener’s century came in the 10.1 over, beating Quinton de Kock’s previous record of 10.2 overs for a T20I century. Sharma’s 13 sixes also set a new record for the most sixes in an innings for India in a T20I. This is Sharma’s second T20I century, bringing him level with Tilak Varma and KL Rahul in terms of centuries scored for India in the format. Rohit Sharma holds the record with 5 centuries.
