Fri Jan 31 17:59:45 UTC 2025: ## Veteran Indian Wicket-Keeper Wriddhiman Saha Retires After Illustrious Career

**Kolkata, India** – Wriddhiman Saha, widely considered one of India’s greatest wicket-keepers, has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 40. Saha, who played 40 Test matches for India, brought his career to a close after playing his final match for Bengal against Punjab.

Saha’s international career was largely defined by his exceptional keeping skills, making him an almost indispensable part of the Test team for many years. However, the rise of Rishabh Pant in 2022 led to Saha’s exclusion from the national team. Despite this, Saha displayed remarkable grace, refusing to blame selectors, coaches, or teammates for his ouster. “I wouldn’t call it injustice,” he stated. “Maybe I wasn’t capable enough or didn’t deliver as expected.”

He admitted that better performance could have extended his international career, but chose to focus on the positives. Saha revealed that he had initially planned to retire last season, but was persuaded to continue by his wife and former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

Throughout his career, Saha maintained a humble demeanor, prioritizing his performance on the field above seeking public attention. He reflected on his career with pride, highlighting his consistent slip fielding and enjoyment of the game. Saha retires leaving behind a legacy as one of India’s finest wicket-keepers.
