Fri Jan 31 19:02:28 UTC 2025: ## Chromepet Subway Project Nears Completion, but Delays Persist
**Chennai, February 1, 2025** – The much-anticipated Radha Nagar vehicular subway near Chromepet railway station is expected to be completed by March 31, 2025, according to the State Highways department. The ₹17.65 crore project, currently 80% complete, aims to alleviate traffic congestion by providing East Chromepet residents with convenient access to the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, bypassing a problematic level crossing.
Remaining work includes installing crash barriers, applying a wearing coat to the road surface, constructing a rainwater collection well, building the top slab, and establishing a pump room. A bituminous layer will also be added to both sides of the road.
However, officials cite contractor delays and worker shortages as reasons for the project’s extended timeline. Pallavaram MLA I. Karunanithi is working to secure additional railway land, a crucial step to enable a crucial two-directional traffic flow as requested by residents. He anticipates approval from the Divisional Railway Manager following a site inspection.
Social activist Santhanam V. expressed the frustration of Radha Nagar residents over the protracted construction and urged the State Highways department to expedite the process. The acquisition of the additional railway land has been identified as a major source of delay.
