Sat Feb 01 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Chevron Adopts “Gulf of America” in Earnings Report, Sparking Controversy

**Houston, TX** – Chevron Corporation has become the first major company to publicly adopt President Trump’s controversial renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” using the new name in its recent fourth-quarter earnings release. The move follows an executive order issued earlier this month by the President.

While Google Maps has indicated it will eventually reflect the name change pending official updates to the U.S. Geographic Names System, the alteration will only be visible within the United States. This has already drawn criticism from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who denounced the change as inaccurate.

Other major oil companies, however, have yet to follow Chevron’s lead. Hess and Shell both continued to use the traditional name “Gulf of Mexico” in their own fourth-quarter reports, while ExxonMobil made no mention of the gulf at all in its release. The differing responses highlight the ongoing debate surrounding the President’s executive order and its implications for international relations and geographical naming conventions.
