**Chennai, February 1, 2025** – Tamil Nadu’s civil supplies authorities have procured nearly eight lakh tonnes of paddy from farmers, exceeding last year’s figures significantly. The Cauvery delta districts contributed the lion’s share, with Thanjavur leading at approximately two lakh tonnes. Tiruvarur followed with 1.6 lakh tonnes, Mayiladuthurai with 85,400 tonnes, and Cuddalore with 70,500 tonnes. Non-delta districts contributed a further 1.67 lakh tonnes, led by Chengalpattu (36,000 tonnes), Erode (31,000 tonnes), and Tiruvallur (23,300 tonnes). This year’s procurement surpasses last year’s by almost two lakh tonnes. Over 1,680 direct purchase centers (DPCs) operated in the delta region, and 480 in the rest of the state, with the NCCF adding another 14,000 tonnes through 23 DPCs. Farmers anticipate further increases in procurement throughout February, attributing the current figures to a delayed Samba crop harvest.
