**New Delhi:** Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget presentation for 2025 included several significant allocations for the state of Bihar. Key announcements include the development of a new greenfield airport to supplement Patna and Bihta airports, boosting air connectivity in the region.

The budget also allocates funds for the establishment of a Makhana Board to provide training and support to Makhana (fox nut) farmers, aiming to enhance production and improve their livelihoods. Furthermore, financial assistance was pledged for the Western Kosi Canal Project in Mithilanchal, benefiting over 50,000 hectares of farmland and improving irrigation infrastructure.

Significant investments are planned for education and infrastructure. IIT Patna will undergo expansion with new hostels to increase student capacity. A National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management will be established, fostering food processing industries across eastern India, creating employment opportunities and boosting farmers’ incomes.

Interestingly, Finance Minister Sitharaman’s choice of attire also highlighted Bihar’s rich culture. She wore a saree adorned with Mithila paintings, a gift from Padma Shri awardee Dulari Devi. The budget’s focus on Bihar signals a significant commitment to the state’s development across various sectors.
