Fri Jan 31 22:00:00 IST 2025: ## Marsh Ruled Out of Champions Trophy 2025 Due to Back Injury
**Sydney, Australia** – Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will miss the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 due to a persistent back injury. The 33-year-old, who has battled numerous injuries throughout his career, aggravated the problem during the recent Test series against India. Despite managing the injury with reduced bowling workloads, his condition worsened during rehabilitation, ultimately forcing Cricket Australia (CA) to withdraw him from the tournament.
A CA statement confirmed that Marsh’s lower back pain has not responded sufficiently to treatment, necessitating a longer period of rest and rehabilitation. The National Selection Panel (NSP) will announce a replacement for Marsh in the coming days.
The injury also impacts Marsh’s potential captaincy role for the upcoming ODI series in Pakistan and the UAE. With Pat Cummins also injured, Steve Smith is now a strong contender to lead the side.
Marsh’s absence is a significant blow to Australia’s Champions Trophy hopes. His last competitive appearance was a brief Big Bash League game on January 7th where he was dismissed for a duck. He now faces a race against time to recover fully before the start of the IPL 2025 season, where he was recently signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 3.4 crores.
