Sat Feb 01 04:09:09 UTC 2025: ## Mass Firings Rock FBI Following Trump’s Re-election

**Washington, D.C.** – A sweeping purge of FBI agents and federal prosecutors is underway, sparking outrage and concerns about the erosion of the rule of law. US media outlets report that hundreds of FBI agents involved in investigations of President Donald Trump, including those related to the January 6th Capitol riot, are facing termination. Dozens of federal prosecutors who worked on Capitol riot cases and were on probationary status have already been dismissed.

The dismissals, according to sources cited by CNN, The Washington Post, and NBC News, target agents from various levels, including heads of over 20 FBI field offices. At least six senior FBI leaders have been ordered to retire, resign, or face termination. The acting Attorney General reportedly justified the actions by claiming the affected individuals could not be trusted to implement the President’s agenda.

FBI Acting Director Brian Driscoll reportedly resisted the mass firings. The FBI Agents Association condemned the move, stating it would severely weaken the bureau’s ability to combat national security threats. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) called the actions a “brazen assault on the rule of law.”

The purge follows the dismissal of Special Counsel Jack Smith, who had brought, and then dropped, federal charges against Trump related to the 2020 election and classified documents. President Trump pardoned over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol riot upon his inauguration. Despite assurances from newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel that he was unaware of any plans to punish FBI agents involved in Trump investigations and that all employees would be protected from political retribution, the ongoing firings contradict these statements. The situation raises serious questions about the independence and integrity of the FBI and the Department of Justice under the Trump administration.
