**Mumbai, January 31** – Shahid Kapoor’s latest action drama, “Deva,” debuted with disappointing box office numbers, earning a mere ₹5 crore nett on its opening day in India, according to Sacnilk. This figure falls significantly short of his previous film, “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” which opened with ₹6.7 crore. The film, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, also stars Pooja Hegde.
Occupancy rates for “Deva” were also underwhelming, registering 5.87% in the morning, 9.18% in the afternoon, and 9.77% in the evening shows. This pales in comparison to the opening day performances of Kapoor’s previous hits, “Jersey” (₹3.2 crore) and “Kabir Singh” (₹20.21 crore).
Despite Kapoor’s dedication, which he highlighted in an Instagram post describing a year of hard work invested in the film, early reviews have been mixed. Hindustan Times criticized the film for its predictability, stating that it failed to capitalize on the potential of its premise. “Deva,” which follows a memory-loss-stricken, trigger-happy cop seeking revenge, appears to have fallen short of expectations both critically and commercially.
